About the work
Kavanagh’s work offers an open structure whereby the viewer encounters work and objects that are often almost shadows of themselves; spectral representations of the physical object completed through memory. Working in a range of materials from paper, resin, paint, graphite and print, the works often create the illusion of precarious or transient form.
About the artist:
Born 1973 Liverpool, Laurence Kavanagh lives and works in London. Graduated from University of Newcastle upon Tyne.
Kavanagh’s work offers an open structure whereby the viewer encounters the work and objects that are often almost shadows of themselves; spectral representations of the physical object completed through memory. Working in a range of materials from paper, resin, paint, graphite and print, the works often create the illusion of precarious or transient form.
His works are held in public and private collections including the Arts Council Collection, London.

Selected group exhibitions include More Than I Dare to Think About, Marlborough Contemporary, London (2013); Transmitter/Reciever, The Persistence of Collage, Arts Council Collection touring show starting at MIMA, Middlesbrough (2011-13); Group Show, Pilar Corrias Gallery, London (2012); Lights, Camera, Action!, Temple Bar Gallery, Dublin (2012); and Mostyn Open, Oriel Mostyn, Llandudno (2011).
Residencies include the Victoria and Albert Museum (2010); Irish Museum of Modern Art (2009); Cocheme Fellowship, UAL, London (2008); and The British School, Rome (2006-7).
