About the work

Monument is a drawing belonging to a new series of drawings and sculptures, these works playfully skew the urban visual language of steel scaffolding and safety netting, so ubiquitous to London and other cites in a state of constant flux. A building can often be at its most intriguing , and quietly beautiful, when half finished and wrapped in temporary trappings.
Monument becomes an imagined huge scale proposition celebrating that which was never meant to remain. Or an ephemeral trace of a structure that has completely evaporated from within it. A memory of a city.

Career Highlights

In 2022 Nathaniel Rackowe created a major commission for Saint Laurent, encompassing 11 cites and 7 counties. He presented an ambitious light installation encompassing a tree as part of Lichtfestival Gent 2021, and also a solo show of newly developed works at FOLD Gallery, London.

2019 saw a solo outdoor installation and accompanying performances in Alserkal Avenue,Dubai, alongside additional performances presented in Oslo at the Opera House, and in London at the Royal Society of Sculptors.

2018’s solo shows included exhibitions at Letitia Gallery, Beirut in addition to installing a large permanent public sculpture in Aarhus, Denmark.
