About the work

I am drawing studies of movements – with this work I did a three-step moving study of a rotation. This movement study is of a girl (me) in a hotel in the mountains. I have mixed the media of pencil drawing and monotype on hotel stationary.

About the artist:

Born 1968 Zurich, Zilla Leutenegger lives and works in Zurich and Soazza.  Graduated from MA School of Visual Arts, Zurich (1999).

Leutenegger is foremost known for her signature drawing style, made up of clear, bold strokes and strong colour accents. Dried trickles of acrylic paint tell the story of the drawings creation and are often incorporated into the picture. The artist habitually works simultaneously in her various mediums. Therefore, the works on paper and video installations can often be read as single scenes or chapters of a larger whole. The combining element between the various works is often a person, an object, a chair or a library.  The artist celebrates single moments of every-day life, which develop an unexpected poetry.

Selected exhibitions include Bündner Kunstmuseum, Chur ( 2021); Fly me to the Moon, Museum der Moderne, Salzburg and Kunsthaus Zurich (2019); The World on paper, Deutsche Bank Kunsthalle, Berlin (2018); The Truth of Uncertainty: Moving Image Works from the Hall Collection, Schloss Derneburg (2017); Solo exhibition, Musée Jenisch, Vevey (2016); No Place like Home, Haus der Kunst, Munich (2016); Solo exhibition, Pinakothek der Moderne, Munich (2015); Line in Space, Arter Space for Art, Istanbul (2015); Solo exhibition, Centro de Arte Caja de Burgos CAB, Burgos (2014); Solo exhibition, Museum Franz Gertsch, Burgdorf (2014); You imagine what you desire, 19th Biennale of Sydney (2014); and Solo exhibition, Museum Morsbroich, Leverkusen (2013).
